Quilt Carrying Bag

I was requested by some ladies in my quilt group to show how to make this awesome quilt carrying bag. My aunt gave it to me. When I asked her for the pattern, she said she didn't have one and had just made it on her own.  Oh boy!! She told me I could do the same. Soooooo....I made up the following pattern.
It  holds lots of quilts.
It just might hold small animals and children as well:)!!

Quilt Carrier Bag

Fabric for Bag:  1 yd. pre-quilted fabric (more/less) depending on desired size of bag

                         Bias tape or fabric for binding (about 4-4.5 yds)

For Strap:  2 inch strapping or fabric--amount will depend on desired length of strap

For closure:  Velcro or snap

Step 1:  Fold fabric length wise, right sides together.  Sew side seams.  Seam allowance is about 1 inch.

Step 2:  Due to bulk of seam, you can stitch down the side seams to hold flat, if desired.

Step 3:  To create the base, with the bag inside out, fold corner to form a triangle with side seam up the center.  Measure 5" to each side of the center.  Mark this line, then stitch on the line.

Step 4:  Bind the top edge.

Step 5:  Measure, cut, and sew on handles to your desired length.  The handles on my bag measure

2"x35".  They are sewn on the outside of the bag.

Step 6:   Sew on the velcro (that is what is used on my bag) or snap.

Of course, you can add pockets, labels, etc. if desired.
