Opportunity at Your Feet

Let me tell you the story of a man who saw a golden opportunity walk right across his foot. Come back with me to a garage in the Midwest, half a century ago.

Inside, a struggling and half-starved illustrator was trying to make a living with his pictures. As he sat there exerting his brain for an inspirational idea, a mouse ran right across his foot.

Generally speaking, mice are not particularly welcome. They smell up the place and make a nuisance of themselves. The young illustrator watched the mouse scurry into the hole in the wall and thought about how miserable his chances were of succeeding as an artist. Then he began to imagine things in that pesky, yet perky, mouse and he began to draw.

America and the world have never been the same since that unknown mouse ran across that man's foot. The mouse was named Mickey and the illustrator was Walt Disney.

The next time you see a sign of failure crossing your path like a repulsive rodent, look again. It might be an opportunity trying to get your attention. Walt Disney built an empire on that silly mouse. He and his hard-working employees have entertained millions. He looked down, then soared as high as a man can fly.
